Budget Bytes – Set an idle timeout for inactive users

A seat stays in use for as long as a budget is open, even after the person who opened it has walked away. In this Budget Bytes video, Robert shows Portal admins how to set an idle timeout, so inactive users are signed out and their seat goes back to the team.

TL;DR

Admins can set an idle timeout in Kardin Portal under Company, Info, Policies. When a user sits idle past that limit, Kardin Portal signs them out and releases their seat for someone else.

Why it matters

Kardin Portal is priced by concurrent seat, and a seat is in use only while someone has a budget open. When someone leaves a budget open and steps away, that seat stays taken until they come back, even if a colleague needs it. An idle timeout handles this automatically, so nobody has to track who is still signed in.

Set the idle timeout

  1. Sign in to Kardin Portal as an admin and click Company.

  2. Click Info, then Policies.

  3. Click Customize.

  4. Under Idle Timeout, set how long a user can be inactive before they are signed out and their seat is released.

More ways to make seats go further

  • Quick Reports: view reports from the Portal without opening a budget.

  • Portfolios: run portfolio-wide reports without using a seat.

  • Read-only users: let folks review budgets without changing them.
